No doubting that the Air is a technological marvel, the questions is, is it really as revolutionary as everyone is making it out to be?
Take for example a two year old Thinkpad X41- like the Air it lacks an internal optical drive, but it's actually lighter than the Air, by just over 200 grams. That's the main factor when considering an ultraportable, the weight, after all a few millimetres isn't really going to make much difference when it's placed in a briefcase/handbag. This, combined with the fact it has a removable battery means all day computing in a package weighing no more than 1.5-2kg. i'd be willing to bet that thanks to it's 4:3 screen it's actually more compact than the Air, and the full size keyboard, coupled with the legendary IBM quality will ensure a much more pleasant typing, and overall user experience, all with the familiarity of Windows.
Still, I'm sure the "fashionistas" will ensure that the Air is a massive success selling by the bucketload.
